I am a big Cesar Millan fan so when I got my pup Trev, a choc lab crossed with a husky, I ordered this book straight away. When the book came I couldn't put it down!!!! There is so much helpful information and lots of Cesar's own experiences in this book its a must read for any new puppy owner.

I bought this a few weeks after I brought my Bulldog puppy home. I found some of Ceasars techniques very useful in helping me to get my puppy to perform some of the more basic commands. Before I bought the book my puppy would not follow standard methods to 'lie down' on command, and even the dog trainer in our puppy class was not successful. After reading how Ceasar handled the terrier puppy something clicked and I tried putting my puppy on a higher level than me to start the training and it worked. Now she does a 'lie down' with the best of them. Thank you Ceasar, he really does getting you thinking from a dogs perspective!

+ I really disagree with the negative review on this book, I have never had a dog and wanted some sound advice from an expert. At first there were no pictures and alot of reading and I kind of wanted facts fast. However, this books is well worth reading through and I thought it went deep into how a dog thinks, which was an eye opener for a new dog owner like me. There are single chapters on all the aspects of bringing up a puppy from bringing it home to, walking, sleep, what you will need etc - ending in a summary of tips which are easy then to look back over.

- He does waffle a little bit at times about his own dogs (bless him he is passionate about dogs!).

Puppy is home....and the advice has really worked, of course you adapt parts to your lifestyle and dogs personality but by following the sleep - our puppy whined a bit when we went to bed but we followed the advice and he did not wake us at night once, and after three nights happily goes in his crate and doesn't bother us at all.

well worth a read for a new owner.

I was full of hope when I ordered this book based on the reviews I had read and what I had seen of Cesar Millan on TV. I have to admit to being a little bit disappointed with this book, however. Whilst I felt it gave a very good overview of how to prepare for and what to expect when you get your new puppy, I didn't feel it went in to as much depth as I would have liked as to how you actually carry out the training - what to do if things don't go to plan etc. I aquired my puppy a week ago and I felt a lot of the info was only relevant if you already had dog(s)to 'help' in the training process. Certainly I was able to pick up some tips but none were any more helpful than information I had already managed to pick up just by surfing the web. To summarise, I would say it gives a good overview of what to do but you would still need to do more research (perhaps the rest is covered in more depth in Cesar's other books....).

A fantastic and must have book for anyone like me, awaiting the arrival of a puppy. all other books are about correcting behavior where as this is about getting it right from day one - gentle correction and guidence tips! Brilliant!
